I needed to do a piece and used what I had in the studio. The laminate is leftover from a holiday project, and the beads were newly gifted to me. I had the large gems but never used them in a project. This was done in two days. A Christmas gift finished on Christmas Day. […]

This piece is all about life. The green sprout rising, youth, words: “Earth Springs. We Witness. We Spring in Kind.” And more. Attached to it’s chain is an apple, which is where it is signed and dated. Most definitely a life affirming piece. Earth Springs 2002 Acrylics and mixed medium on window sash, chain with dangling […]
Welcome 2021. Welcome, welcome, welcome. In a burst of gratitude to 2021 being right around the bend I did these. I needed to put something down on a surface. And after painting 2021 once I couldn’t resist doing it more so I added three boards to the batch. Four in all. Hope loves company.
I bought five tubes of paint for this piece and used every drop of each. The profile rises from the canvas like the head of a giant looking through a sixth floor window. The Samuel Adams bottle cap, at the center of the eye’s pupil, speaks to an American spirit at the center of the […]
Cathy posed for this many years after we were friends in High School. We were 11th grade sweethearts. It was High School in the 70’s, Long Island, and we sang Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz song on our walks. In this painting there is a wedding ring hovering low in the right corner. It’s a testament […]
Since I started painting on things, frames with glass have appealed to me. I had canvas and frame in one. The clear nature of the glass let me paint on both sides, building the art doubly. (The fragility of the glass is why I’ve gone on to acetates and plexi.) In this piece’s case, […]
Recent picks (8/23) below. I love the motion in this piece, the bubbles that trail the red, it’s mass. RED AQUATIC is painted on both sides of a clear canvas and has a dimensional surface, great for catching light and offering shadows. 2009 Acrylic and mixed medium on acetate 18 x 23 inches From […]
Here a needle rises. Through it’s eye five ribbons thread intertwining into a single pointed nib. A young man holds aloft a scroll upon which the nib has scribed. A red dot, symbolic of the blood spot of creation, is evident and although small, prominent. Tip The Universe 2009 Acrylic and mixed medium on acetate 18 x […]
Fireworks, once it was hung, exhibited aspects of it’s natural properties…reflectiveness. Four images here demonstrate the effect of direct sun on it’s mirrored surface. Fireworks 2005 Acrylic and mixed medium on mirrored polymer disc 36″ diameter, round The disc itself has a legacy. Prior to it being painted by me it lined the face […]
This piece done in 2000 has earth and universe and man in relation to each other. Galactic Guy 2000 Acrylic and mixed medium on canvas Approx: 24 x 40 Gazing galactic style. The contemplative type, he is. Naked he is too.
Details, details, oh the pleasure of details. Like much of my work the dimensionality of the surface is lush. To help you see it… it’s a man leaning on his forearm against the branch of a tree.
WORDS ON FRAME: Life, Birth, Flesh, Bone, Soul, Point of View, Cast. It’s a toss of the coins. This is one of the first pieces where I wrote on the frame, painted on the glass, and affixed the two so as to make the frame and image inseparable.
This large piece has a determined surface. It’s canvas is picnic cloth from Kmart. It’s a fabric I’ve used in three pieces now. Here it’s an American man steeped in dynamic adornment.
This floral is painted on clear canvas, both sides, using dimensional acrylics and mixed medium. There’s a lot of rich surface joy in this piece, lots of depth.
For a time after 9/ll a symbolic shift I took was to paint suns red, skies red. Whether what’s painted in this piece is a sun or simply a red radiance of life, it is held aloft by five noble grass blades. Nature supporting life.
