Smiling Face

Smiling Face

Since I started painting on things, frames with glass have appealed to me. I had canvas and frame in one.

The clear nature of the glass let me paint on both sides, building the art doubly. (The fragility of the glass is why I’ve gone on to acetates and plexi.)

In this piece’s case, the frame arrived in my hands as a poor attempt to frame a piece of art given to me.

By the time I had the urge to paint I had already separated the art from the frame.

This piece is freedom and spring, it affirms life. It was painted in a moment of being, not doing.
