Cathy posed for this many years after we were friends in High School. We were 11th grade sweethearts. It was High School in the 70’s, Long Island, and we sang Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz song on our walks. In this painting there is a wedding ring hovering low in the right corner. It’s a testament to my respect for her. Today she is married to a very lucky man.
The board this piece was painted on was one of two I found outside an East Village Community Center with the motto: Education Through Recreation. There’s a picture of it above. It is on the back of Cathy. The second board from the Community Center called Comm Lady integrates the graphics as an undercoat for the painting, so you can see the original typography, colors, throughout the piece.
