Before masks became pandemic gear I painted a bunch of costume masks to sell locally. Custom costume. Seemed a ripe canvas. So, in the spirit of “let’s see” I purchased a few plain party masks and painted them using acrylics and mixed medium. They sold at Gothic Renaissance in the East Village. I wore the white one, below, to my friend Porfi’s masked 50th birthday party. The one I still have is the original winged mask, below.
My favorites masks from the batch are the winged head pieces, of which I did three, and the white one with the primitive black eyes I wore at a party.
I find the father and son photos taken at the street fair marvelous. An interesting moment. Beautiful and fleeting.
