OVAL can be interpreted many ways. There’s a celestial quality to it’s center, leaves at it’s base, and a little character’s white flower head at the top with yellow cord arms spread wide at the top with hands that have five blue beads for fingers. Together, the piece could be viewed as arms, body, legs. It’s painted on an oval frame with a velvet base layer using acrylics, mixed medium, and adornment. 2001.
I’ve often seen the top portion of this piece as a person speaking out openly and wide-armed to the internal spirit present in the piece.
It has a stamp from Denmark where I’d been visiting before doing it. It is one of four oval pieces I did at the time. One of which is in Denmark and was given as a gift to my hosts. The two other pieces are also painted on black velvet, one is a house in a pearlescent white winter scene and the other, the same house, in a nighttime celestial context.
