Raw Civility

I’d stopped wearing neckties except for special occasions. Once I allowed myself to see my surplus of ties as usable canvas things moved fast.

I took them, brushes in hand, and explored until themes emerged. What I painted fell into three categories.

Crossbone, Counter-Stripe, and Freestyle

With ties so fixed in men’s lives, my use of them as canvas never pulled them out of their utility except to add a definite raw to their classic expression of formality.

Wearing these ties is an option. Painted with acrylics and mixed medium as art expressions they are prone to deterioration, especially the kind knotting and unknotting can cause.
